Effective 26 April 2023, car traffic in Lisbon will change dramatically. The central area of the old town, will no longer be accessible by private cars or buses, due to major roadworks for at least 2 years (up to April 2025).
If you are thinking of booking a hotel in these areas, think twice.
If you are thinking of renting a car in Lisbon, think twice.
These major traffic restrictions will cause issues to some of the following locations: Baixa/Rossio, Chiado, Praça Comercio, Rua da Prata, Rua Aurea, and Restauradores, just to name a few.
Alfama and Chiado might also be affected, since most roads will have access through the restricted areas.
Here are some suggestions for hotels with top class ratings to stay in Lisbon, not affected by these new Traffic/Car Restrictions:
- Hilton Doubletree Hotel
- Lapa Palace Hotel
- PortoBay Liberdade Hotel
- Hotel Real Palacio
